Amy Winehouse beats husband when she's drunk and angry

Amy Winehouse beats husband when she's drunk and angry
Everyone has that friend who gets really drunk and cries or gets really angry. Amy Winehouse seems to be on the evil bitch side of the spectrum when she's had a few beers. The missing tooth wonder recently spoke in an interview about her drunken violence. What kind of puss is her husband if he lets a chick who weighs a buck-O-five beat up on him?
“I’m either a really good drunk or I’m an out-and-out s***, horrible, violent, abusive, emotional drunk.

I’ll beat up Blake when I’m drunk. I don’t think I’ve ever bruised him, but I do have my way. If he says one thing I don’t like then I’ll chin him.

I’m not a fighter, but if I am backed up against the wall I’ll kick the s*** out of anyone. I don’t think your ability to fight has anything to do with how big you are. It’s to do with how much anger is in you.”

China constructs giant dam

China constructs giant dam
Some call it the eighth wonder of world. Others say it's the next Great Wall of China. Upon completion in 2009, the Three Gorges Dam along Chinas Yangtze River will be the world's largest hydroelectric power generator and one of the few man-made structures so enormous that it's actually visible to the naked eye from space. NASA's Landsat satellites have provided detailed, vivid views of the dam since construction began in 1994.

The Yangtze River is the third largest river in the world, stretching more than 3,900 miles across China before reaching its mouth near Shanghai. Historically, the river has been prone to massive flooding, overflowing its banks about once every ten years. During the 20th century alone, Chinese authorities estimate that some 300,000 people were killed from Yangtze River floods. The dam is designed to greatly improve flood control on the river and protect the 15 million people and 3.7 million acres of farmland in the lower Yangtze flood plains.

Observations from the NASA-built Landsat satellites provide an overview of the dam's construction. The first image shows the region previous to start of the project. By 2000, construction along each riverbank was underway, but sediment-filled water still flowed through a narrow channel near the rivers south bank. The 2004 images show limited development of the main wall and the partial filling of the reservoir, including numerous side canyons. By mid-2006, construction of the main wall was completed and a reservoir more than 2 miles (3 kilometers) across had filled just upstream of the dam.........

Easing out of work

Easing out of work
When Bob Willis thought about retiring, he knew just how he wanted to do it. Slowly. Or maybe never.

Since 1995 Willis, 66, a University of Michigan economist, has directed the enormous Health and Retirement Study conducted by the U-M Institute for Social Research (ISR) and funded by the National Institute on Aging. One of the largest and most ambitious social science research projects in the world, the study surveys a nationally representative sample of more than 20,000 Americans over the age of 50 every other year to track how they are doing as they age.

"I was really interested in divesting myself of the administrative duties connected with the study so I could spend more time on a new line of research I've been pursuing," Willis said. "But I also wanted to stay actively involved with the Health and Retirement Study. This study, and the people who work on it, are an important part of my life".

Willis had always consulted closely with the study's founding director, U-M economist F. Thomas Juster, 80, who embodies the process of retiring so gradually you don't really retire at all in any conventional sense. For years after Juster formally retired, he showed up in his ISR office on a daily basis. "Isn't he retired?" puzzled staffers asked each other.........

Green Party Demands 12 Cent Gas Tax

Green Party Demands 12 Cent Gas Tax
It's no laughing matter. The Canadian Green party (depicted above) has the solution to "averting environmental catastrophe" a.k.a. global warming by introducing a[nother] new tax on petrol. Canadians already pay more on average for their gasoline than their neighbors south of the border.

Comparing their declaration to levy a 12 cent tax per liter tax on gas with former U.S. President Kennedy's bid to put a man on the moon, they claim that theirs is a lofty goal that would save the planet by taking money from all those wasteful motorists.

And remember, to do it will cost 12 cents per liter and not a penny less.

My kids are in good physical shape. Im still due to do a lot in my life. Being a woman and a mother, I have lots of responsibilities and ambitions and I prefer fulfilling them; thats my sole focus. Marooned at Sacramento Port Humpback Whales Finding Their Way Home

Marooned at Sacramento Port Humpback Whales Finding Their Way Home
It seems that the two humpback whales, who lost the way during their annual migration and ended up in the rivers and ship channels of California’s Central Valley, will succeed in finding their way into the open Pacific Ocean.

Ever since these whales have been trapped in the shallow waters coast guard people have been trying to move them into the San Francisco Bay. But the presence of mother and calf whales have managed to attract lots of people to the shore, who are enjoying the sight of these marine creatures.

U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Alan Haraf said:

The whales, presumed to be a mother and her calf and both bearing scars of injuries believed to be from boats, had turned south from the Port of Sacramento on Sunday. They’re about a mile or two north of the Coast Guard station in Rio Vista.

Nevertheless, these two whales have created history by becoming the first humpback whales, who have come so inward into the Sacramento port. Though so far these whales have made a good progress but still they have to cover 80 miles more before they reach the Pacific Ocean.

All we can say is Bon VoyageImage

Cannes. Boarding Gate.

Cannes. Boarding Gate.
"Girl in black underwear with Luger tucked backside over her tramp stamp - that's about the narrative extent of this blockheaded thriller from filmmaker Olivier Assayas," grumbles the Hollywood Reporter's Duane Byrge. "Starring Michael Madsen as a sleazy international wheeler-dealer and Asia Argento as the bad girl, Boarding Gate is chock full of elements that never spark beyond one-sheet dimension."

You'll see more of the same below regarding this Out of Competition selection, but first, it should be noted that Premiere's Glenn Kenny is, as he puts it, "the odd man out" here. "[I]n such situations one really must, as Sabine Azema lip-synched in Resnais's On connaƮt la chanson, 'Resiste!'" The film, he proclaims, "rocked me pretty hard."

Updated through 5/20.

Protect yourself from online scum

Protect yourself from online scum
As we surf many things can go wrong, even the more experienced users have been known to get their computers infected by spyware, adware and viruses or even get abused by online scams.

In order to make your life easier, a well-known security company McAfee has devised a browser plug-in by tSite Advisor. This perfect little add-on (available for Firefox and IE too) advises you about the security of websites you visit, and even marks your search results, so that you know beforehand what are you surfing into.

The McAfee Site Advisor team goes to great lengths in order tanalyze websites and give them just the right rating. They sign up for newsletters, updates and notifications, watch what's coming back and whether it's spam, they check inbound links and downloads available for viruses, spyware and adware.

A great tool to have, no doubt about it, especially if you share your computer with less knowledgeable users.

Misunderstood Blog-a-Thon.

Misunderstood Blog-a-Thon.
Heavens, look at all those misunderstood movies. No, not at Cannes but at all those blogs the Culture Snob has been gathering links to throughout these past few days of the Misunderstood Blog-a-Thon: "The joy of building a case for an unconventional reading is mining those peripheral moments or sights and finding meaning in them. We are watching closely."

The Snob's reached back into the archives as well; for example, to the argument that Dogville is not anti-American.

Everything at your Fingertips

Everything at your Fingertips
Am I the last person on earth tCEOExpress? I stumbled upon it this morning and was blown away by all of the International information and Internet access available from one home page.

All of the major papers around the world are there, the major search engines have links, Amazon is there, business, technology, entertainment, news wires, health news, weather and a really cool poll.

At the top right side of the page is a poll question which an on line moderator poses. You vote and can then comment and the moderator helps the string of comments along. This morning's question is:

How much does a candidate's position on abortion count in your choice for president?

The answers varied, as you might expect. CEO Express is like the Yahoo or Google home page on steroids. Check it out.
